AP Television News Appoint New Director of Technology

DavidHoad
David Hoad is today appointed Director of Technology for AP Television News. Hoad, who was previously Head of Technology and Strategic Projects, will now assume responsibility for all aspects of technology infrastructure, development and support for the international television news division of the Associated Press (AP).

Having joined AP Television (APTV) in November 1994, Hoad has had a key role in all the major technology and engineering projects that have been implemented at AP Television News over the last 11 years. Following an intense period of activity as part of the successful APTV/Worldwide Television News (WTN) integration team, he was appointed Head of Engineering and oversaw the planning and implementation of ENPS, AP’s newsroom production software, and then led the design and implementation of the new digital newsroom and automated production environment, which moved AP from an inefficient analogue world to a flexible digital one.

In October 2004 he was the recipient of an AP Gramling Achievement Award for his leadership, design and delivery of the digital newsroom project.

Hoad replaces Nick Evansky, who moves to the role of Vice President and Director of Operations, Services and Technology, who comments “David richly deserves this opportunity and will continue to play a key role in helping the AP leverage video across the enterprise. I am still fortunate to be working with David, who will help me ensure we utilise our global assets across all media types smartly and efficiently.”

Hoad will remain based in London and joins the team of Directors of AP Television News, reporting to Chief Executive Eric Braun, who adds “It is very important for us to have someone in this role who understands the convergent world of video, text, photos, Internet, and new media. David's experience and knowledge is comprehensive on all fronts and he is uniquely capable to help us move toward AP's stated mission: to become the ‘Essential Global News Network’."
