10th Anniversary of Bali Bombings
Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, will join relatives at a memorial service in Bali on 12 October 2012, marking the 10th Anniversary of the Bali Bombings. Two hundred and two people lost their lives – 88 of whom were Australian – in the twin bombings of a pub and nightclub in the Kuta area of the island.
The Australian Government has said it will offer financial assistance to some relatives wishing to make the trip to Bali to mark the anniversary.
It's also been reported in local media that the Government of Bali will also hold a remembrance service at the official memorial to the bombings - built at the site of one of the two nightspots in Kuta destroyed in the attack.
Both memorials will take place at 0000 GMT (0800 local time) on 12 October 2012.
