The launch of Direct in 2003 has provided broadcasters with unparalleled live news coverage 24-hours-a-day. The quality of the APTN's newsgathering from Iraq earned us an International Emmy nomination, a first for an news agency.

In 2005, AP Television News was again nominated for an International Emmy for its coverage of the Beslan school siege and succeeded in winning the Breaking News Award. The horrific events were delivered live and as-live to broadcasters around the world via our satellite network, the Global Video Wire, and via our breaking news service, Direct. Every national broadcaster in Britain and in countless other countries round the world led their news bulletins with AP Television News' pictures.
