What is Direct?

Direct is a premium live video news service available worldwide, providing raw, unbranded and unedited content.

Coverage includes elections, summits, disasters, statements and press conferences, protests and riots and major events.

Direct is available either as a subscription package or on an ad hoc basis for specific events.

Why should I subscribe to Direct?

Direct gives you access to news video, as it happens.

Direct has consistently proven its value to clients whenever there is a need for live video news pictures on-demand.

The live nature of Direct means you are always up to speed on the latest breaking news and events.
Direct Online gives you access to content information, planned coverage, and a message board that provides interactive communication with AP Direct's dedicated content managers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

A live stream of Direct's coverage is also available to view online.

You can also download a Desktop Ticker that automatically highlights and updates information on content coming through on Direct. Any late changes, or notifications of breaking news are communicated via an 'Alerts' function – which also displays on the Desktop Ticker.
What is the Desktop Ticker?

The Desktop Ticker, available to all Direct customers, automatically updates content information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Imminent changes and announcements from the Direct content managers will also be communicated via 'Alerts', which are visible once you have downloaded the Desktop Ticker.

Access to the message board, giving you a direct line of communication with the Direct content managers - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, can also be launched via the Desktop Ticker.

Option 1 – Within an existing video player
The encoded AP Direct feed is delivered via an embeddable URL or SWF file in order to optimise revenue generating opportunities via an existing player, while minimising impact on workflow.

Option 2 – No existing video player
An embeddable player can also be provided to allow quick set-up. This is supported by complete data traffic analytics for monitoring of video usage and has an optional advertising inventory to enable revenue to be generated from the content.

All online customers will need to ensure they have sufficient bandwidth to host streaming video. Streamworks is able to provide Content Delivery Network (CDN) solutions to clients without a CDN, and can also supply competitive quotes to match or upgrade existing CDN services with more robust delivery, minimised bandwidth consumption and possible cost savings.
The following frame sizes are recommended for website, mobile and tablet viewing:
